Why Botox May Not Be Good For You

The search for the perfect anti-wrinkle treatment has led to the development of some radical treatments. Among those treatments is Botox. Botox is a form of wrinkle treatment that involves injecting minute amounts of a certain toxin into the facial muscles, paralyzing those muscles and allowing them to relax. This causes the wrinkles caused by the action of those muscles to fade.

The toxin used in Botox is a form of botulinum toxin that is highly toxic to humans when present in large quantities. It paralyzes the muscles, including those in the heart and lungs and eventually causes death through suffocation or cardiac arrest. When injected in minute quantities into specific muscles, however, it can be used to relax those muscles, preventing them from contracting.

One of the main safety concerns regarding the use of Botox is the fact that little is known about the long-term effects of Botox on the human body. Long-term studies have yet to be conducted because the drug has only been in use for a relatively short amount of time. The fact that Botox is in fact a toxin also raises the risk of there being long-term side effects from its use, as there is no way to determine how the continued use of Botox will affect the nervous system and the brain.

Another concern is that Botox is particularly harmful to people who have multiple allergies. The toxin may cause these people to have violent allergic reactions, and may even cause death. It is difficult to determine if a person is allergic to Botox until he or she has already received the toxin and by then it may already be too late.

The fact that Botox is toxic in large quantities can also pose a health concern. Because the toxin is administered by hand by doctors or nurses, it is open to human error. Larger quantities than normal may be accidentally administered to patients, and this may cause the patient to experience symptoms associated with the presence of the toxin in the body. This is a very real concern and is also based on the fact that each person’s tolerance to Botox is different. What may be a normal amount in someone may be enough to trigger a reaction in someone else.

Some doctors may also administer more than the recommended doses of Botox in order to achieve better results. They may be operating under the assumption that if a little Botox is effective, then more would be even more effective. This is dangerous and would put the lives of patients at risk if the doctor should administer more toxin than the body can safely handle.

Until these concerns have been safely put to rest, it must be said that the use of Botox poses some health risks and that patients choose this treatment at their own risk.
